This program is targeted at residents of Palmer Park in Prince George's County, Maryland who are:
- over the age of 16 years,
- not enrolled in school, and
- are unemployed or underemployed
In this program, HIP Services contributes toward the educational expenses for individuals who are interested in furthering their education by taking classes or training. Most of the persons using the program have taken classes at the community college, but other programs may be eligible as well. The funds can be used for GED prep classes, for vocational programs, for continuing education or for academic track classes. For many of the classes, a high school diploma is not required.
Some of the classes that Palmer Park residents have taken under this program include English, Spanish, GED prep, Early Childhood education, business, accounting, EMT, phlebotomy, nursing, medical assistant, landscaping, computer repair, computer training, cosmetology, piano and criminal justice.
To date sixty Palmer Park residents have taken advantage of the program.. HIP has sponsored several events in Palmer Park where GED placement tests were available on site and representatives from Prince George's Community College were on hand to sign people up for classes.
