In the early 1990s, HIP acquired and significantly renovated vacant apartment buildings in Suitland Manor, leveraging over $1.4 million in public and private funds. HIP owned and managed these buildings which provided safe, decent affordable housing for very low-income families earning 50 percent or less of the area median income. Rents ranged from $280 for an efficiency to $404 for a three-bedroom apartment. HIP received no operating or rent subsidies for these units. These buildings were sold to the Redevelopment Authority of Prince George's County in June of 2006.
